As of 1 September 2023, Pilar Garcia Gomez succeeds Kirsten Rohde as Vice Dean and Director of Research at Erasmus School of Economics. The appointment also results in taking over Rohde’s associate directorship at the Erasmus Research Institute of Management (ERIM). This appointment will take effect at the same date.

Pilar Garcia Gomez is motivated to take up the role of Vice Dean and Director of Research: "My aim is to contribute to fostering a positive research climate by facilitating the exchange of ideas across departments, finding ways to streamline processes, and raising awareness of existing opportunities. All this in alignment with the school’s strategy of incentivising productive teamwork, combining strengths and weaknesses for impactful research."
Pilar is also dedicated to working towards providing junior faculty with better support: "Our junior members are the catalysts for the necessary change in economics. By doing so, Erasmus School of Economics will establish itself as an institution that nurtures excellent future economists."
About Pilar Garcia Gomez
Pilar Garcia Gomez is Professor of Applied Economics with focus on Health and Labour at Erasmus School of Economics. Her main research interests are in the area of health and employment, with a focus on the impact of policies like disability insurance and other labour market policies on the health and labour market outcomes of those affected and their families, as well as the impact of events early in life, like parental job loss, on children health and health and employment later in life.
Pilar Garcia-Gomez has worked in the Health Economics section within the department of Applied Economics at Erasmus School of Economics since 2008. In her position as (Deputy) Director of the department, she has contributed among other things to advance on the policies focused on the wellbeing of early-career researchers, and the transparency and communication of the School to facilitate an environment that guarantees equal opportunities for all the staff members.
Thomas Peeters to be appointed new Director Department of Applied Economics
Dr Thomas Peeters, currently the Deputy Director of the Department of Applied Economics, succeeds Prof. Pilar Garcia-Gomez as Director. He will be appointed for a period of two years initially. Dean Patrick Groenen says: "On behalf of the Management Team, I can say that we look forward to continue working with Thomas. He is a committed person to his colleagues, the department, and the School."
About Thomas Peeters
Thomas Peeters is an associate professor at Erasmus School of Economics. He coordinates the activities of the Strategy Economics Research Group and the Erasmus Center for Applied Sports Economics (ECASE). Thomas is a research fellow of the Tinbergen Institute and a member of the Erasmus Research Institute in Management.
In his research he focuses on questions on the intersection of strategy economics, innovation, industrial organisation and sports economics.
