Michel Wedel strengthens quantitative marketing research with visiting position

The Econometric Institute of Erasmus School of Economics is joined by Michel Wedel, the Pepsico Chaired Professor of Consumer Science in the Robert H. Smith School of Business at the University of Maryland, USA. With the appointment as a visiting professor on the Henri Theil rotating Chair, Michel Wedel is further strengthening the research in quantitative marketing and data science within Erasmus School of Economics.

About Michel Wedel

Michel Wedel, who holds an MSc in Biomathematics from the University of Leiden and a PhD in Marketing from Wageningen University, is one of the leading senior researchers in the field of Consumer Science, the application of statistical and econometric methods to further understanding of consumer behavior and to improve marketing decision making. He is known for his work in the areas of market segmentation, advertising and promotions, visual marketing, multidimensional scaling, conjoint analysis, and big data analytics.

Wedel was ranked the number one Marketing scholar in the world based on number of publications, third Marketing scholar in the world based on publication rate, the number one economist in the Netherlands, and the number one Netherlands marketing scholar based on number of publications. Wedel is currently area/associate editor of Marketing Science, Journal of Marketing Research and Journal of Marketing.

Kyokushin karate career

Michel Wedel holds a 5th dan in Kyokushin Karate and is a nine-times winner of the Dutch (open) full contact Karate championship. In 1987 he became the European heavyweight champion. Out of his last 25 fights, Wedel won 22 by knock-out (!). He wrote the book: “Kyokushin Karate: Training and Fighting” with Koen Scharrenberg, and made Kyokushin training instruction videos with Andy Hug.
