Martijn Burger and Martijn Hendriks receive ISQOLS Awards

Martijn Burger and Martijn Hendriks are this year’s winners of the Research Fellow Award and the Young Scholar Award of the International Society for Quality-of-Life Studies (ISQOLS). These prizes were presented to them at the ISQOLS annual conference in Granada (September 5-7, 2019).

ISQOLS is an international society of scholars researching quality of life and well-being, and a panel of experts reviewed and selected the awards.

Martijn Hendriks received the Young Scholar Award for his dissertation and post-dissertation work. The jury was impressed by the dissertation he defended in January 2018, entitled: “Migrant happiness: Insights into the broad well-being outcomes of migration and its determinants”. The dissertation has resulted in eight publications in peer-reviewed books and academic journals, including Journal of Happiness Studies, Social Indicators Research, and the World Happiness Report.  Martijn Burger received the ISQOLS Research Fellow Award for his recent work on happiness economics. The jury praises the great societal relevance and societal impact of his research on human well-being. Furthermore, the jury mentioned his current efforts in making the Erasmus Happiness Economics Research Organisation (EHERO) an internationally leading research institute on quality of life and happiness studies.
