Marketing educator Michel Wedel wins Irwin Award for outstanding contributions

Visiting Professor Michel Wedel is the winner of the 2019 AMA-Irwin-McGraw-Hill Distinguished Marketing Educator Award. The Irwin Award honours living marketing educators for distinguished service and outstanding contributions to marketing education. Wedel joins a long list of marketing luminaries like Phil Kotler, Frank Bass, Jerry Wind, Don Lehmann, Jim Bettman and Roland Rust.

Michel Wedel, the Pepsico Chaired Professor of Consumer Science in the Department of Marketing, Robert H. Smith School of Business, at the University of Maryland, joined the Econometric Institute on the Henri Theil rotating Chair at Erasmus School of Economics in 2018.

Wedel is one of the leading senior researchers in the field of Consumer Science, the application of statistical and econometric methods to further understanding of consumer behavior and to improve marketing decision making. He is known for his work in the areas of market segmentation, advertising and promotions, visual marketing, multidimensional scaling, conjoint analysis, and big data analytics.

Michel Wedel was ranked the number one marketing scholar in the world based on number of publications, third Marketing scholar in the world based on publication rate, the number one economist in the Netherlands, and the number one Netherlands marketing scholar based on number of publications. Wedel is currently area/associate editor of Marketing Science, Journal of Marketing Research and Journal of Marketing.
