The Econometric Institute of Erasmus School of Economics is again welcoming leading scientist Michel Wedel as Visiting Professor on the Henri Theil rotating Chair.
Michel Wedel, the Pepsico Chair in Consumer Science and a Distinguished University Professor at the University of Maryland’s Robert H. Smith School of Business, maintains a warm relationship with the Econometric Institute. Wedel considers it a great honour to be part of the institute, which he says is one of the world’s most renowned organisations for developing and teaching econometric methods and applying them in Economics and Business.
Wedel is one of the leading senior researchers in the field of Consumer Science, the application of statistical and econometric methods to further understanding of consumer behaviour and to improve marketing decision making. He is known for his work in the areas of market segmentation, advertising and promotions, visual marketing, multidimensional scaling, conjoint analysis, and big data analytics.
Several lifetime achievement awards have been bestowed on the Netherlands-born marketing professor and eye-tracking expert. Accolades are amongst others the Don Lehmann Award, the Converse Award, the Robert J. Lavidge Global Marketing Research Award, the Irwin-McGraw-Hill Distinguished Marketing Educator Award and the Buck Weaver Award. In the Netherlands he received the Dr. Hendrik Muller lifetime award from the KNAW.
Wedel has more than 200 publications, including research in top marketing, econometrics and psychometrics journals and book chapters. He has also developed seven software packages that enable PhD students and marketing practitioners to implement methods he developed. He has served on the editorial boards of all the top marketing journals and has been a key contributor in the field and to PhD education in the U.S. and Europe.
