Alumnus Paul Hofstra is director of the Rotterdam court of auditors since 2009. In an interview he gave with NRC, he talks candid on local politics in Rotterdam. In a recent published report, he founded that 250 civil servants of the muncipality in Rotterdam felt pressured between 2010 and 2017.
According to Hofstra, the administrative culture in Rotterdam is unhealthy and worse than in other regions of South-Holland. Civil servants often feel like they cannot reject/contradict their manager's plans. The Rotterdam City Council called Paul's report not representative as their was no random sampling used. As a true economist, Paul indicates that this is irrelevant as all the employees were asked. He believes this reaction signaled discomfort.
