'If you are very happy, you also have more to lose'

Erasmus School of Economics

In an interview for the Dutch broadcasting website KRO-NCRV which is linked to journalist and television presenter Eva Jinek, Happiness Professor Veenhoven of the Erasmus Happiness Economics Research Organization of Erasmus University Rotterdam explains the secret of happiness at any age.

Happiness follow a generalized U-shape over the course of a life: People report high degrees of happiness in their late teens and early 20s. But as the years roll by, people become more and more miserable, hitting a nadir in life satisfaction sometime around the early 50s. Happiness rebounds from there into old age and retirement.
