Han Smit receives the University Education Prize

Corporate Finance Professor Han Smit of Erasmus School of Economics is this year’s winner of the University Education Prize. He will be presented this Prize during the festive ceremony of the Opening of the Academic Year 2019-2020 on Monday 2 September 2019.

With this Education Prize Han Smit receives the recognition for the fact he is highly appreciated by his students. With his enthusiastic way of teaching, using innovative forms of education, Han Smit brings out the best in them. Smit also motivates students to undertake extra-curricular activities. Furthermore, the jury appreciates that Han Smit has spent considerable time in the development of a successful Massive Open Online Course (MOOC) on Coursera, entitled “Advanced Valuation & Strategy - M&A, Private Equity, and Venture Capital”. The course is helpful for executives that need to value complete strategies and for all students interested in corporate finance and strategy.

About Han Smit

Han Smit is Professor of Corporate Finance within the department of Business Economics at Erasmus School of Economics. His research in the areas of private equity, real options valuation, competition and strategy has been widely published in leading academic and practitioner journals. He is co-author of a book Strategic Investment: Real Options and Games published by Princeton University Press. Professor Smit has been a visiting fellow at Harvard University, Columbia University, UC at Berkeley, Boston University, and fellow at the Netherlands Institute of Arts and Sciences (NIAS).
