Gasreserves: how to spend its profits?

During the past decades 265 billion euros, earned with the production of natural gas, has flowed to the Dutch public treasury, says Bas Jacobs, Sijbren Cnossen Professor of Public Economics at Erasmus School of Economics, on SRF, a Swiss radio station. At first, generous social benefits were financed with this money and, later on, also on the construction of infrastructure. However, Professor Bas Jacobs criticises the fact that the gasreserves were reduced too quickly and that the profits made are currently spent too loosely and too little sustainable .
