Alumnus Ming Cheng, together with fellow MPhil students of the Tinbergen Institute, Sijmen Rijks and Maartje van Wijhe, have won the 2023 edition of the National Economics Olympiad. They also set a record by winning the Olympiad two years in a row.
‘Best economics students of the Netherlands’
The National Economics Olympiad is an event that is organised by study association AEclipse. It took place on Friday 10 March 2023 at the headquarters of Rabobank in Utrecht. Participating teams from all over the country, competed for the title ‘best economics students of the Netherlands’.
The National Economics Olympiad 2023 set off to a great start with a welcome speech by Ester Barendregt, Chief economist at RaboResearch. It was followed with a challenging 3-hour exam with questions from various economics professors. Prof. Coen Teulings gave an inspiring keynote lecture, debating on how the traditional distinction between Monetarists and Keynesians does not apply to today's world.
About study association AEclipse and the National Economics Olympiad
AEclipse is the study association for students in the master’s programmes International Economics, Policy Economics, and Economics of Markets and Organisations at Erasmus School of Economics.
The National Economic Olympiad is organised in close cooperation with the Royal Dutch Economic Association (KVS) and Erasmus School of Economics. More than a hundred economics students from Dutch universities are now taking part in this competition.
