The corona crisis and the impact on the economy of Rotterdam: EVR 2021

On 9 March 2021, the EVR 2021 takes place. In this online event, the newest trends and developments of Rotterdam's economy will be discussed. This year, Frank van Oort, Professor of Urban & Regional Economics, and Jeroen van Haaren, Senior Researcher Urban Economics and Real Estate, both of Erasmus School of Economics, are two of the speakers of this online event. This year's theme is 'the effect of the corona crisis on Rotterdam's regional economy'.

Measures to curb the Covid19 pandemic have posed major challenges to the economy of Rotterdam. After several years of strong growth in jobs, businesses and visitors and a sharp drop in unemployment, this came to an end in one fell swoop in 2020. What does this mean for the broad service sector that in recent years was the driving force behind economic growth in the city? This sector, which includes the hotel and restaurant industry, the tourist industry and the retail trade, is having a hard time. And what does it mean for the port and manufacturing companies? They were already struggling in the region prior to the pandemic due to the necessary energy and digital transitions, which have become even more important due to the corona crisis. All this and more will be discussed during the EVR 2021.

This event is in Dutch and consists of a talkshow with entrepreneurs and researchers and a Q&A. For more information about the event and registrations, visit the event page
