Alumnus Tijn Voerman wins second prize at the 2025 Thesis Award of the Netherlands Court of Audit

Tijn Voerman, a recent graduate of Erasmus School of Economics, has won second prize at the prestigious 2025 Thesis Award of the Netherlands Court of Audit.

Voerman’s thesis examines how uncertainty about future tax discourages investments by companies in Europe. This research offers valuable insights for policymakers and economists concerned with economic stability and the investment climate.

Thorough methodology and relevant contribution to the economic debate

Tijn Voerman’s research shows that companies are less likely to invest when there is uncertainty about the future tax burden. His analysis offers an economic framework to better understand the impact of tax policy measures and thus reduce uncertainty for companies. The jury praised his research for its thorough methodology and relevant contribution to the economic debate.

Voerman recently received two diplomas: a master’s degree in business economics with a specialisation in Financial Economics (cum laude) and a bachelor’s degree in Tax Law. His master's thesis, entitled "Tax uncertainty and investments by private and public firms in the European Union (2018-2022)", was assessed with a 9.0. Tijn now works for Decisio, an economic research and consultancy firm specialising in economic issues.

The first prize was won by Christel van de Wal (Open University) and the third prize went to Rotterdam School of Management alumna Eva Schreuder.

With the thesis prize, the Netherlands Court of Audit emphasises the importance of cooperation between science and policy. By encouraging young talent and appreciating innovative insights, the Court of Audit contributes to a better functioning government and economy.
