Former econometrics student Eva Janssens will soon be joining the Macroeconomic and Quantitative Studies section in the Research and Statistics division of the Federal Reserve Board, Washington DC, as an economist.
On Wednesday 15 June, Eva obtained her PhD Cum Laude from the University of Amsterdam. Soon after she visited her Alma Mater because she wanted to hand her dissertation to Prof. Philip Hans Franses personally (see photo). During her undergraduate and graduate studies at Erasmus School of Economics, Eva worked as a research assistant for both Prof. Dick van Dijk and Prof. Philip Hans Franses. She also was a teaching assistant for several courses and participated in the Bachelor Honours Research Class.
Her dissertation research, titled ‘Estimation and Identification in Macroeconomic Models with Incomplete Markets’, considers the identification and estimation of macroeconomic models with heterogeneous agents. It was co-supervised by another alumnus of Erasmus School of Economics, Frank Kleibergen, who works as a professor at the University of Amsterdam. Next to her dissertation research, Eva Janssens has co-authored several papers in econometrics with Professor of Applied Econometrics, Robin L. Lumsdaine.
Eva finished her bachelor Summa Cum Laude in Econometrics and Operations Research (average of 9.0, grade for thesis 9.3) and in the summer of 2018, she finished the MPhil programme at Tinbergen Institute, a joint institute for research and education in economics, econometrics and finance of the University of Amsterdam, VU University Amsterdam and Erasmus School of Economics.
In that same year Erasmus University Rotterdam presented Eva Janssens the prestigious Professor Bruins Prize at the festive opening ceremony of the academic year. The Professor Bruins Prize is intended for research master students who excel in terms of academic performance and research qualities.
We all wish Eva the best for the future and hope she will visit us sometime.
