On Friday 21 June, over 170 Alumni of Erasmus School of Economics reunited with their alma mater in the Excelsior stadium in celebration of the 110th anniversary of the school and university, to watch the EURO 2024 high-intensity football game between the Netherlands versus France.
The first alumni were welcomed at 6:30pm at the van Dongen & de Roo Stadium, just across the street of the Woudestein campus. After the rain had stopped, many alumni headed straight to the field to live out their childhood dreams of being a professional football player. In his opening words, Charles Hermans, Director of Alumni Affairs, welcomed a staggering number of 170 alumni. Subsequently he presented a prize to the (at that moment) leader in the Scorito EURO 2024 prediction game and all alumni received a school’s sports shirt.
Tasteful barbecue and high-intensity football game
During the evening, all alumni enjoyed a tasteful barbecue, which was followed by a high-intensity game between the Netherlands and France, that ended in a 0-0 draw.
The present alumni saw that France created some good chances in terms of attacking effort. The Dutch were caught between the positives of the draw and the missed opportunity of that Xavi Simons' disallowed goal.
Director of Alumni Affairs Charles Hermans looks back with great pleasure: ‘It was yet another successful alumni event as the final part of the school’s 22nd Lustrum year. I would like to thank all alumni who joined this memorable and festive evening!’
