Brief summary of the doctoral thesis:
In societies, individuals establish institutions to shape their economic, social and political interactions. In the context of economic interactions, a robust body of empirical literature supports the claim that both firm and broader market outcomes are significantly influenced by institutions. This dissertation explores the implications of institutional change on firm decisions. As the rules of the game undergo transformation, firms need to adapt their strategies to the new rules. Depending on the kind of institutional shock hitting them, firms may respond in diverse ways, such as entering or exiting a specific industry, altering the composition of their asset portfolio, or revising the organization of their production. The study of these phenomena constitutes a relevant matter, as the adaptation processes of individual firms have the potential to shape aggregate economic outcomes.
