As society becomes increasingly polarised and politics have shifted to the right, the housing crisis and the number of people living below the poverty line remain pressing issues. Meanwhile, Europe is making significant investments in defense due to the war in Ukraine. The challenges are immense - how will the new government address them? What will we see reflected in the governmental budget? What can we expect from public finances in politically challenging times?
During the Miljoenennota Gesprek: Economy in times of populism and war, we will discuss these and other current economic issues with experts including Jasper Lukkezen (Utrecht University) on the question of what a war economy is and whether we are heading towards one; Matthijs Korevaar (Erasmus School of Economics) on the housing crisis; and Godfried Engbersen (Erasmus School of Social and Behavioural Sciences) and Anna Dijkman (Het Financieele Dagblad) on the Budget Memorandum and current economic affairs. The evening will be moderated by Robert Dur (Erasmus School of Economics).
