Molecular Medicine

Aim of the selection

Our program is aimed at students that are highly motivated for a career in research in the field of Molecular Medicine, where we use knowledge and methodologies from genetics and molecular cell and developmental biology to unravel molecular mechanisms in biomedicine and solve biomedical problems. We offer a small-sized program of max 25 students, to allow close interaction of the students with their teachers and internships supervisors and ensure a highly interactive learning environment. Therefore, we aim to select students that we expect to perform well in our program, based on their interests and past performance.

Selection criteria

- BSc in any of the biomedical sciences (e.g. biology, biochemistry, nanobiology, medicine or related fields), or BASc from a Dutch vocational training program in biomedical laboratory techniques (HBO) -supported by an extensive curriculum vitae and a written personal motivation statement and if that is satisfactory, also further demonstrated in an interview

- Good performance in previous educational programs, demonstrated by official and translated transcripts of diplomas and reports, in particular regarding the subjects relevant for our program, one or two letters of reference regarding your functioning during a (research) internship or work, from your professors, teachers or supervisors, and in some cases a written entrance exam

Proof of sufficient command of the English language. This requirement is satisfied if you:  

  1. Hold a diploma from pre-university secondary education (VWO) and the subject English language was part of the examination to obtain that diploma; or  
  2. Hold a diploma from secondary education, obtained from an English-language institution of secondary education within or outside the Netherlands; or  
  3. Hold a final diploma from a four-year English-language higher vocational education programme; or
  4. Hold a final diploma from a three-year English-language university degree programme; or
  5. Have taken one of the following tests:  
    1. computer-based Test of English as a Foreign Language (TOEFL) with a score of 232 or higher with partial scores of minimally 23;  
    2. internet-based TOEFL with a score of 90 or higher with partial scores of minimally 22;  
    3. Paper-based TOEFL with a score of 575 or higher with partial scores of minimally 57;  
    4. International English Language Testing System (IELTS) with a score of 6.5 or higher with partial scores of minimally 6.0;  
    5. Cambridge proficiency test with level C1 or higher.  

Selection of applicants

Invitation for an (online) interview or a rejection of the application can be expected within 1 month after the application deadlines. Within 1 month after the interview students will be informed by email whether they are accepted for the MScMM program or not, or whether they are invited for an entrance exam.

Within six weeks, the candidate can formally appeal against the selection committee's decision with the Examinations Appeals Board (CBE).
