How youth participation can inform developmental cognitive neuroscience and policy. A novel - transdisciplinary – framework will be presented by Eveline Crone (SYNClab & Erasmus Professor). She will also launch a new ESSB research facility.
Ronde 1 - 14.00-15.00 | EN | Erasmus University College
The current generation of adolescents is confronted with complex societal challenges such as a climate crisis, growing social inequalities, and increasing societal expectations. The developmental period of adolescence is simultaneously characterized by an increased need to contribute to societal challenges.
Therefore, adolescents could be the ‘agents of change’ to find our way out of these societal challenges. In this workshop, I will present a novel - transdisciplinary – framework, based on fundamental brain science, experimental developmental science and participatory action research, for evidence-informed policy formation, in which adolescents themselves have an active role.
New ESSB research facility launced
As of 2024, ESSB offers a new research facility that includes functional brain imaging with the introduction of a novel research-dedicated Convergence MRI scanner. I will discuss how brain imaging methods can contribute to a new research agenda within the field of developmental cognitive neuroscience and beyond, where a trinity between fundamental science, youth participation and policy using the living lab method can be created. This may serve as a model for other programs and research questions within our faculty.
