Bert den Ouden
Biography
Bert den Ouden is the Project Director of the “HyXchange” Hydrogen Exchange initiative, supported by Dutch gas operator Gasunie, several Dutch port authorities, and the involvement of many market parties. The initiative aims at a liquid market for the trading of Hydrogen on the main Dutch hydrogen infrastructure, including the global imports there and the European countries associated with it. The HyXchange development program contains a Hydrogen certificate pilot, a Hydrogen spot market simulation, and development of a hydrogen pricing indicator. Hydrogen carriers are also in scope.
Earlier on, Bert den Ouden was founder and CEO of APX-ENDEX, an energy exchange for the trading of electricity and natural gas in Netherlands, Belgium, and UK. He realized the “market coupling” to integrate the EU electricity markets. He also led the growth of the TTF gas hub towards Europe’s most important gas trading point. He was founder and first chairman of Europex, the European association of energy exchanges.
In his career, Bert den Ouden has been also in Energy Consultancy, as well as in policy development at the energy department of the Dutch Ministry of Economic Affairs. Currently, he is still involved as a senior energy expert at Berenschot consultancy, where he founded the energy team specializing in Energy Scenarios, energy systems and optimal integration of renwable energy, energy transition policies for the industry and the built environment, electrification, and hydrogen carriers.
