dr. SA (Saad) Khan

Biography

I serve at the Centre of Excellence in Gender Studies (CEGS) at Quaid-i-Azam University Islamabad and, at present, a visiting fellow at the International Institute of Social Studies (ISS), the Hague. As a critical feminist scholar, I analyze the gendered dynamics of Sufi culture in contemporary Pakistan, focusing on the lives and works of female leaders. My research interests include critical men and masculinities, decolonial feminism, transgender politics, and critical Sufi studies. I have been actively involved and part of several social justice and solidarity movements and groups working in Pakistan. I am currently working on my upcoming monograph on the lives and works of contemporary Sufi women leaders in Pakistan.
During my stay at ISS, I will pursue research on the role of international actors/states in transgender politics in Pakistan. I will be closely examining the impact of transnational policies and global politics on transgender rights in Pakistan.
