prof.dr. RJ (Robbert-Jan) Adriaansen

Biography

Robbert-Jan Adriaansen is associate professor at the History Department of Erasmus University Rotterdam and is the EuroClio Endowed Chair Historical Culture in Transition at Ghent University. He is co-lead of the research cluster Heritage & Identity and is executive director of the Center for Historical Culture.

He received his PhD cum laude from Erasmus University Rotterdam in 2013. Adriaansen's research focuses on historical culture and historical consciousness, in the past and in the present. In 2015 he published the monograph The Rhythm of Eternity: The German Youth Movement and the Experience of the Past, 1900-1933 (Berghahn, 2015). His current research focuses on the impact of digitization on historical consciousness, historical culture, and history education.
