dr. MC (Michiel) Boog

Biography

Dr. Michiel Boog is a researcher at the Erasmus University Rotterdam and Antes (a mental healthcare organization in Rotterdam). At the Erasmus University Rotterdam, he is affiliated with the Clinical psychology group at the Department of Psychology, Education and Child Studies. In 2019, he obtained his PhD, on his thesis titled: ‘Impulsivity – clinical aspects in substance use disorders’. His research focuses on substance use disorders and personality (disorders). He is committed to conducting research that is clinically relevant. Next to his research, Michiel works as a clinician.

On the Dutch Schema Therapy Congress 2019, he was awarded the Young Arntz Investigator Award for his research on Schema therapy in borderline personality disorder patients with co-morbid alcohol use disorder.

Michiel Boog is a licensed clinical psychologist and psychotherapist. For many years, he has provided therapy for patients suffering from drugs and alcohol use disorders and pathological gambling. In research and therapy his attention was drawn to co-morbid personality disorders. Collaborating closely with colleagues, this interest led to the start of a day treatment center for addiction and personality. In this treatment center, psychotherapy and scientific research are integrated.
