dr. J (Janna) Cousijn

Biography

Why do some lose control over drug use, while others do not? I am intrigued by the fine line between addiction risk and resilience. To this end, I study the processes underlying trajectories of drug use. In 2021 I founded the Neuroscience of Addiction Lab at the Erasmus University Rotterdam, after transitioning from the University of Amsterdam. I use an interdisciplinary approach to learn how the environment shapes drug users. As such, my team studies neurobiology in rodents and men, but also the role of social dynamics and culture. Moreover, I develop theory and methods, invest in team science and use an impact agenda in my science and teaching.
