EA (Eva) van Gemert, MSc

Biography

Eva van Gemert is a PhD candidate at the Department of Public Administration and Sociology of the Erasmus University Rotterdam.

Her PhD research (2017-2021) deals with humanitarian interventions in the Mediterranean Sea in response to Europe's 'migration crisis', for which she received a Research Talent Grant from the Netherlands Organisation for Scientific Research (NWO). Her research is supervised by prof. dr. Willem Schinkel and dr. Rogier van Reekum. Eva is also involved in teaching two courses: Public Issues (MA) and A History of Sociology (BA) (2017-2018).

Before starting her PhD, Eva studied Sociology (BA and Research MA, both with distinction) at the University of Amsterdam, in which she specialized in critical border studies and qualitative research methods. During and after her studies, she worked as a research assistant and junior lecturer, both at the University of Amsterdam and the Erasmus University Rotterdam.
