Today, 17th May is the International Day against Homophobia, Transphobia and Biphobia (IDAHOT). EUR continues to stand in solidarity with the LGBTQ community and celebrate the march towards greater social equity for all people, regardless of their sexual orientation or gender expression.
Fundamental to our view of ‘being an Erasmian’ is our belief that we do not believe in exceptions to acceptance. Consequently, today is an important day to reiterate:
- There will never be a place at EUR for discrimination against peoples sexual orientation or expression of their gender identity.
- Our LGBTQ community at EUR, both past and present, have made invaluable contributions to our community’s richness and the broader pursuit of knowledge and progress. We at EUR are unapologetic about celebrating their inclusion
- All Erasmians have a responsibility within our community and broader society to speak out against hatred and intolerance in all its forms.
EUR is also proud to support associations such as Erasmus Pride, provide support facilities to support Erasmians within our community, and develop upon the Purple Manifesto that we endorse.
We know we must do more to ensure that our community is equitable to people of all sexual orientations and gender expression. Nonetheless, we will not stop our efforts to make equity and decency for all stand alongside knowledge and achievement.
