Associated Professor dr. Mariangela Lavanga from Erasmus School of History, Culture and Communication, gives a keynote on fashion and sustainability at the event “Fashion and the Anthropocene: towards a sustainable fashion future” at the Vrije Universiteit (VU) Amsterdam on Thursday 27 October.
A transition in the fashion industry
The event is organised by the Environmental Humanities Center (EHC) and the Amsterdam Sustainability Institute (ASI). It brings together academics, activists, and non-profit organisations to explore how the fashion system might transition to more ethical, connected, and sustainable futures.
What is the role of the consumer? Is the prospect of a ‘good’ fashion industry realistic, and what strategies might have transformative effects? We ask whether the age of the Anthropocene is seeing the fashion industry transition towards sustainability.
Design, Impact, Transition
Mariangela Lavanga works as Associate Professor of Cultural Economics at the Department of Arts and Culture Studies at ESHCC at Erasmus University Rotterdam. She is academic lead for the development of new forms of transformative engagement and sustainability transition in fashion industries at DIT (Design, Impact, Transition), a new platform under the Erasmus University Rotterdam “Strategy 2024”.
In June this year, Mariangela Lavanga, together with Jacobine Roozendaal, campaign manager at EUR, was involved in the EUR Impact in Sight Video on sustainability and fashion.
