During the ERIM Awards 2024 ceremony on 14 March 2025, Associate Professor Matthijs Korevaar of Erasmus School of Economics has been honoured twice. He first received the Top Article Award and later in the programme, he was presented the ERIM Award for Outstanding Performance by a Young Researcher.
Matthijs Korevaar received the Top Article Award for his groundbreaking paper “Reaching for yield and the housing market: Evidence from 18th-century Amsterdam”, that was published in the Journal of Financial Economics. His research sheds new light on the link between investor behaviour and housing market volatility, significantly influencing both academic discussions and public policy.
Korevaar was once again honoured for his remarkable contributions to financial-economic research, particularly his interdisciplinary approach and advocacy for open science. It was Rector Magnificus Jantine Schuit who presented the ERIM Award for Outstanding Performance by a Young Researcher. Because Matthijs was engaged in a research visit abroad, the awards were accepted on his behalf by colleague Prof. Sebastian Gryglewicz. The ERIM Awards 2024 once again showcased the institute’s commitment to academic excellence and societal impact, reaffirming its position as a leading research community.
