Jan Peter Balkenende awarded the National Order of the ‘Star of Romania’

President of Romania, H.E. Mr. Klaus-Werner Iohannis, awarded former Dutch Prime Minister Jan Peter Balkenende the National Order of the ‘Star of Romania’ in the rank of Grand Cross. Balkenende received this National Order as a sign of high appreciation for the support offered to Romania during the time he served as Prime Minister of the Netherlands. Mainly, his support during EU accession negotiations as well as the development of relations between the two countries on multiple levels.

During an award ceremony at the premises of the Embassy of Romania in The Hague on Monday 11 June, the Romanian Ambassador H.E. Mrs. Brândușa Predescu pinned the decoration to Jan Peter Balkenende’s lapel.

Since December 2010 Jan Peter Balkenende is Professor Governance, Institutions and Internationalisation at Erasmus School of Economics and Erasmus School of Law. From 2002 unitl 2010 he was the Prime Minister of the Netherlands, and during the four preceding years, he served as chairman of the CDA (Christian Democratic Appeal) parliamentary party in the Dutch House of Representatives, starting from October 2001.
