Prof.dr. Annelien Bredenoord has been appointed by the Supervisory Board of Erasmus University Rotterdam (EUR) as President of the Executive Board (CvB). Bredenoord has been a member of the CvB as Rector Magnificus since September 2021 and will start in her new position as President on Sept. 1, 2024.
She succeeds prof.dr. Ed Brinksma, who is stepping down as president after four years due to reaching retirement age. The Supervisory Board made the decision after a process that included consultation with deans, the University Council's Confidentiality Committee and the other members of the Executive Board.
The Supervisory Board is in unity
The Supervisory Board and the Appointment Advisory Committee are in unity about the appointment: "Annelien serves as an authentic leader with a clear vision and decisiveness, but also as a team player who reflects well and gives space to others. Her talent and strength are an excellent fit for the role of President. We expect Annelien to do very well in this role as President of the Executive Board", says Jaap Winter, Chair of the Supervisory Board.
Annelien Bredenoord considers it a great honour
"I consider it a great honor to be appointed as President of our wonderful university located in the dynamic city of Rotterdam. A university with a strong profile and an ambition that matters - creating genuine positive social impact based on scientific strength. Both the DNA of the EUR and its location in the urban region that is Rotterdam provide an excellent starting point to further build on this together with our regional, national and international partners. I have done so with full determination in recent years as Rector, and will continue to do so as President", says Bredenoord.
"As Rector, together with Ed Brinksma and Ellen van Schoten, the Deans and the entire university community in the field of education and research, I have experienced a very pleasant partnership in recent years, and I am proud of what we have achieved together. As President, I look forward to being more focused on general political-administrative matters, strategy and external affairs, across the spectrum, to build on the strategic choices we make together as one university towards a modern inclusive impact university that contributes to the big issues of our time. Not just for EUR, but beyond."
