On Friday 25 October 2024, T. Higuchi will defend the doctoral thesis titled: ‘Spinoza’s Ethics: A Recipe for God‘.
Brief summary:
In Spinoza's "Ethics," there was a question of whether the demonstration based on geometric order is a method of discovery or merely a form of presentation. If we consider geometric demonstration as a method of discovery, then it would imply a necessity for "Ethics" to be written in such a manner. On the other hand, if it is merely a form of presentation, it would only present to the reader what has been discovered through means other than geometric demonstration. This dissertation demonstrates that it is indeed a method.

The public defence will begin exactly at 10.30 hrs. The doors will be closed once the public defence starts, latecomers may be able to watch on the screen outside. There is no possibility of entrance during the first part of the ceremony. Due to the solemn nature of the ceremony, children under the age of 6 are not allowed during the first part of the ceremony.
