On Wednesday 31 March 2021, R. Starreveld - Brand will defend her PhD dissertation, entitled: ‘Uncovering Atrial Fibrillation Complexity: From signals to (bio)markers’.
My thesis focuses on characterizing both electrophysiological and structural changes underlying (the persistence of) atrial fibrillation. In the first part of my thesis, the focus is on discovering electrical markers of atrial fibrillation, which have been measured during heart surgery using intraoperative (endo-) epicardial high-resolution mapping. The second part of my thesis describes the potential of biological markers of atrial fibrillation, including a first clinical pilot study of a potential new therapeutic agent (L-glutamine).
Due to corona, the PhD defences do not take place publicly in the usual way in the Senate Hall or in the Professor Andries Querido Room. The candidates will defend their dissertation either in a small group or online.
