Brief summary:

The treatment of locally-advanced cervical cancer is multimodal and typically requires an extensive radiotherapy schedule. Its multimodal nature offers plenty of opportunities for treatment personalization, but also complicates the question of where most benefit can be found. In this thesis large-scale cohort analyses are performed to find points of improvement in the radiotherapy treatments of cervical cancer patients. More specifically, the impact of more progressive radiotherapy techniques is predicted based on historical data on gastrointestinal symptoms due to external radiotherapy. Additionally, based on historical multi-center data a prediction model is constructed to better shape internal radiotherapy plans to spare healthy tissue, while maintaining tumor coverage. The thesis demonstrates that currently implemented techniques are already sparing healthy tissue significantly compared to conservative techniques implemented elsewhere, but that improvements can still be found.
