It is happening again! We are happy to invite you to another edition of the summer school program ‘Philosophy with/out a School.’ From the 29th of July until the 2nd of August, fellow students, tutors, internal and external guests and speakers will gather at Buitenplaats Brienenoord in Rotterdam to explore what else philosophy education can look like by thinking, doing, eating, and talking the things we didn’t get to during the academic year! We like to call this with and without (with/out) a school, because while during the year a school structures and often obstructs your learning for you, during the summer we get to pick and choose which parts of the school to keep.
We construct it via a gift economy. Our first gift to offer: this year’s program combines the walking practices of Aristotles’ Peripatetic school of Deleuze’s method of dramatization. Like Aristotle's students, we start the days with morning ‘walks’, which you develop with each other, the tutors, guests and a repository of assignments. Then we have lunch and the time yours to do philosophy how you please. At the end of the afternoon, from the purlieus of the island and academia guests will arrive to take everyone for the evening walk to talk about a different-but-related topic. The route, tempo and rhythm of these walks is decided by the guest, but always ends up at the dinner table.

The only gifts we ask in return for now are that you take some time to think about the questions in the form and that you save the 29th of June for a pre-gathering afternoon. We will develop the rest of the program from your answers.
Some extra details: Everything is free of charge for all ESPhil students in any of the BA programs (BPSD, fulltime, parttime). We have space for 30 participants. All activities are in English. To participate in the summer school, coming to the pre-gathering afternoon is required. If you can't make it, we can find a solution if you let us know in the form.
