Project description
Collaborations between clients, informal and formal care givers is becoming increasingly important for delivering care for older persons. Yet, not always easy to achieve. Different tensions occur within this collaborations, and different ideas on what makes a good collaboration can stand in the way.
In the Collaborating on improving collaboration project, we study the following research question via participative mixed methods research: “How can the interaction between clients, informal and formal caregivers be improved in a way that does justice to the needs of all those involved, and what can caregivers in both extramural and intramural care mutually learn to improve the transition from extra- to intramural care?
This research project is a collaboration between ESHPM, Zinziz, Genero, MantelzorgNL and four care organizations.
Based on this research, we develop practical instruments that enhance the development and execution of informal care policy by supporting formal and informal caregivers and clients to improve mutual collaborations. These instruments are qualitatively evaluated in a pilot in four care organizations by monitoring their effects on improving the conditions for collaboration. Indirectly their effect on clients’ and informal care givers’ quality of life and formal caregivers work satisfaction is studied. Based on this evaluation the instruments are improved and subsequently disseminated via professional organizations, interest groups, vocational education, publications in scientific and professional journals and social media.
