Biography
.I am currently appointed as Interim Dean of the Rotterdam School of Management (RSM) and as professor of Health Economics at the Erasmus School of Health Policy & Management (ESHPM), both of the Erasmus University Rotterdam.
My research is mainly focused on the methodology of welfare economic evaluations of health interventions, but I am also interested in topics like behavioral health economics and public health economics. An overview of publications can be found here:

I have been involved in the development, coordination and teaching of several bachelor and master courses and am happy to have supervised around 25 completed PhD theses, and to be able to supervise around 10 current PhD students.
I am an Associate Editor of Health Economics and a member of the Editorial Boards of the European Journal of Health Economics, PharmacoEconomics, and Cost-Effectiveness and Resource Allocation. Moreover, I was a co-founder of the Health Economics Study Group for the Low Lands (LoLaHESG), of the Erasmus Initiative Smarter Choices for Better Health, and of the Erasmus Center of Health Economics Rotterdam (EsCHER).
Furthermore, amongst other current ancillary activities, I serve as the independent chairman of the Foundation for Top Clinical Mental Health Care (TOPGGz), am a member of the Scientific Advisory Board of the Dutch Healthcare Institute (Zorginstituut), am Trustee of the Office of Health Economics (OHE, London, UK), and a member of the Supervisory Board of the Dutch Patientfederation (Patiëntenfederatie Nederland).
Previously, I served as the Dean of ESHPM from 2012 to 2018 and as interim Dean of ESHPM from December 2019 to May 2022, and amongst others as Head of the Health Economics & Health Technology Assessment Department, Research Director of ESHPM, and as Academic Lead of the Erasmus Initiative Smarter Choices for Better Health. Moreover, I was a member of the European Commission Expert Panel on Effective Ways of Investing in Health (EXPH from 2013-2019).
