Biography
I am Professor of Health Economics at the Erasmus School of Health Policy & Management (ESHPM) of the Erasmus University Rotterdam. I am also affiliated with the institute of Medical Technology Assessment (iMTA) and was appointed as honorary university professor at Corvinus University in Budapest in 2012 and at Obuda University in Budapest in 2024.
I served as Dean of ESHPM from 2012-2018 and as Interim Dean of ESHPM from 2019-2022. From February 2023 until December 2024 I served as Interim Dean of the Rotterdam School of Management, Erasmus University.
Holding an MSc in Economics (1996) and a PhD in Health Economics (1999) from Erasmus University Rotterdam, my research focuses on the methodology of welfare economic evaluations in healthcare, public health economics and behavioral health economics. The main topic in my work is refining the methodology and expanding the scope of economic evaluations in healthcare. An overview of my publications can be found here:

As an educator, I was fortunate to have been and am being involved in several courses taught at the bachelor and master level, as well as in the supervision of 28 completed and around 10 ongoing PhD theses.
I was a co-founder of the Health Economics Study Group for the Low Lands (LoLaHESG), of the Erasmus Initiative Smarter Choices for Better Health, and of the Erasmus Center of Health Economics Rotterdam (EsCHER).
In terms of ancillary activities, I am a member of the Scientific Advisory Board of the Dutch National Healthcare Institute, member of the Board of Trustees of the Office of Health Economics in London, chair of the Supervisory Boards of Veens Welzijn and the institute for Medical Technology Assessment BV, and a member of the Supervisory Board of the Netherlands Patients Federation. I serve on the Editorial Boards of the European Journal of Health Economics, PharmacoEconomics, and Cost-Effectiveness and Resource Allocation. From 2010 to 2024 I was Associate Editor of Health Economics.
