dr. AE (Arthur) Attema

Biography

Arthur E. Attema is an Associate Professor at the Health Economics department of ESHPM. His main research interests include behavioral and experimental health economics, utility theory and measurement, and intertemporal choice. Arthur obtained an MSc degree in Economics at the University of Amsterdam (cum laude) and an MSc degree in Health Economics at Erasmus University Rotterdam. He holds a PhD degree from the Erasmus School of Economics in Rotterdam, for his dissertation on intertemporal preferences with applications to health economics, under supervision of Prof. Han Bleichrodt and Prof. Peter P. Wakker. Arthur is associate editor for Journal of Health Economics, coordinator editor of Theory and Decision, and management board member of the Behavioral Experiments in Health Network (BEHnet). Arthur has won the NVTAG MTA award, an EUR Fellowship, and an NWO Open Competition L Grant. In 2015, 2017, and 2021, he was listed in ESB's Top 40 of economists located in the Netherlands, based on quality-weighted publications, and in 2024 he was listed 20th in ESB's Top 25 of Assistant/Associate Professor.
