The future of healthcare
Both the advisory committee and the Faculty Council are pleased with the appointment. There is great trust in IJzerman. Stefan Sleijfer, President of the Executive Board of Erasmus Medical Center and Chairman of the Selection Committee: "The ESPHM faculty plays a key role in the Convergence Alliance through the many partnerships that have been established with other faculties within the EUR, as well as with TU Delft and Erasmus MC. We are very pleased with the appointment of Maarten IJzerman. With his knowledge, network and personality he will further strengthen ESHPM and we look forward to an intensive cooperation.”
Ed Brinksma, President of the Executive Board of Erasmus University Rotterdam is pleased with the appointment of the new dean: "Maarten IJzerman has extensive knowledge in the field of health, technology, policy and management. He has a broad management background, and an extensive international network. These are closely aligned with ESHPM's ambitions. I am looking forward to the collaboration."
Maarten IJzerman
Maarten IJzerman considers the ESHPM faculty to be a leading international institute: "I am very honoured and look forward to starting as dean of the Erasmus School of Health & Policy Management. The faculty has tremendous expertise that is essential to the challenges in health and welfare. I look forward to linking the ambitions of ESHPM to the Convergence Alliance, in close cooperation with other faculties within Erasmus University and other partnerships. But first, I want to listen and understand what is going on within the faculty. It is important that people can do their work in an environment where they feel respected and safe and where there is enough attention for diversity of talent."
Since 2018, IJzerman has been a professor and director at Faculty of Medicine, Dentistry and Health Sciences at the University of Melbourne and the Victorian Comprehensive Cancer Centre, an alliance of 10 hospitals, where he leads, among other things, a data-intensive Cancer Health Services Research program. In addition, he has been working as a professor at the University of Twente since 2005. He has held various management positions, including Department Chair of Health Technology and Services Research, and Dean of Health & Biomedical Technology at the Faculty of Science and Technology.
Esteemed leadership by Prof. Werner Brouwer
IJzerman succeeds Prof. Werner Brouwer, who has served as ESHPM's dean for a total of 8.5 years. He was dean from 2012 to 2018 and served as ad interim dean for the past 2.5 years. Werner Brouwer has been an excellent interim dean. Stefan Sleijfer, President of the Executive Board of Erasmus MC: “As ad interim dean, Werner Brouwer guided the faculty through a difficult time. The Executive Board of Erasmus MC and I are very grateful to him for this.” He has made a major contribution to the continuity and success of the faculty. ESHPM has grown into a national and international leading faculty in terms of education, research, and impact.
