Broadening the scope of health economic evaluations recognises the notion that patients are not isolated individuals. Despite growing awareness about broader effects and costs associated with diseases and treatments, for instance on informal caregivers, labour productivity and the environment, a deeper understanding of such spillovers is essential from both theoretical and practical viewpoints.
