PhD Workshop ‘Qualitative Research on Risk and Uncertainty’

On 28 October 2025, the day before the ESA (RN22) Midterm Conference 2025, we will host a PhD Workshop specifically designed for early-career researchers. Held on the first day of the conference, this PhD Workshop provides an opportunity to delve into qualitative methodologies for studying risk, fostering collaborative discussions, and receiving guidance from leading experts in the field.

Chaired by Dr. Bert de Graaff (coordinator of the Research Network 22), this interactive session will offer participants opportunities to share their experiences and receive feedback in a collaborative setting. 

To ensure a high-quality and focused discussion, a selection committee will admit only 6 PhD students based on their submitted short abstracts. Participation at the PhD Workshop will be free of charge for PhD students who are also registering for, and presenting at the Midterm Conference 2025 (submit your abstract to the Midterm Conference here). 

Call for papers

We welcome applications from PhD students at any point in their research and writing trajectories, who are keen to learn, share and critically reflect on their work, the work of others, and of the heterogeneous disciplinary traditions the workshop will reflect.

Submissions deadline: 31 May 2025
Notifications of acceptance will be sent by 30 June 2025. Selected participants will then be required to submit a long abstract by 1 October 2025.
