Biography
Yongjian Li-Groenendijk is a PhD candidate/lecturer in the Department of Media & Communication at Erasmus School of History, Culture and Communication. Under the supervision of Prof. Susanne Janssen and Dr. Tonny Krijnen, Yongjian's research focuses on digital mobilities and internal migration in the Chinese context to examine the interaction of these three factors: digital media, migration and ageing. Before coming to Erasmus University Rotterdam, Yongjian received his Bachelor's degree in Public Administration from Wuhan University (WHU, China) in 2016, followed by a Research Master's Degree in Public Policy at Renmin University of China (RUC) in 2018. He also studied Social Pedagogy, care and lifelong learning at Hokkaido University in Sapporo, Japan, in 2017. He was a visiting research fellow in intercultural communication, international education, and student mobility at the University of Helsinki (Finland) from 2017 to 2018. He worked as an intern at Tencent in 2017. Yongjian's research interests include media technologies, migration and media, intercultural communication and the digital diaspora. He is particularly interested in how social media mediate migrants' lives.
