Dr. Yijing Wang of Erasmus School of History, Culture and Communication (ESHCC) was awarded the COST Action Grant of 500,000 euros for the 4-year project titled "AlertHub: Warning Communication Knowledge Network". With this grant, she is participating in a network to promote international cooperation between scientists and practitioners in the field of climate disaster management.
Societies worldwide are faced with extreme weather events at an increasing scale, with climate change as a key driver of this development. Against this backdrop, the COST (European Cooperation in Science and Technology) Action aims to establish a European interdisciplinary network to facilitate international collaboration and knowledge transfer among scholars and practitioners whose work involves warning communication and disaster management.
Reducing risk and harm
The Action uses a risk and crisis communication lens to advance knowledge, promote cooperation, and contribute to reducing risks and harm posed to the public by climate change-related disasters. The Action seeks to enhance the overall effectiveness of disaster response efforts and promote cross-border cooperation among scholars and practitioners in this key field.
International collaboration
Yijing Wang will collaborate with 26 scholars and practitioners from 15 European countries on this project. They will work together to analyze the existing warning systems, aiming to better understand the information flow, cross-channel communication, the impact of the digital divide, and the types of data considered when addressing issues such as compliance, generating trust, and tackling disinformation.
