Prof. dr. Jacco van Sterkenburg is asked as a Chair of the supervisory committee for a 1-year research project into instruments to combat misbehavior in football in the Netherlands and Belgium. The research is carried out by the Vrije Universiteit Amsterdam (project leader Prof. dr. Marjan Olfers) and is commissioned by the Research and Documentation Centre, WODC. The WODC is the knowledge institute for the Ministry of Security and Justice. Jacco is endowed professor in the department of Media and Communication at the Erasmus School of History, Culture and Communication (ESHCC).
The study will provide more insights into the various aspects of existing Belgian and Dutch instruments to combat football related misbehavior, and the transferability of effective instruments to the other country. The supervisory committee consists of five people who have been asked for their personal expertise on the different aspects related to the topic. They will, amongst other things, advise the research team and monitor the various aspects of the research project. They will meet three times during the project. The research will be finalised in 2023.
