Established in 1913, Erasmus University Rotterdam (EUR) is a relatively young public university.
The university is named after Desiderius Erasmus Roterodamus, a 15th-century humanist and theologian. For centuries Erasmus has enjoyed popularity in academia, being a person who should always be remembered by Rotterdam.
