History students and internships

Internship International Bachelor History

The International Bachelor History takes a unique approach by focusing on how history shapes present-day societies. Students focus on modern history and political, cultural, social and economic issues. History is approached from a global and long-term perspective by using themes such as migration, social inequality, popular uses of history (e.g. in video games or during carnival) and trends in the fashion industry and the growth of main ports.

Not only do our students gain theoretical knowledge, they also explore the practical side. They learn to set up research, are able to assemble and process large amounts of data, they can write a text and can give a presentation.

In the fourth term (April- July) of the third year of the IBHistory programme, part of the students are required to do an internship. They have already finished writing their thesis, so it is the last course before graduation. This internship lasts for a minimum of 11 weeks and helps to gain practical work experience and connects the students’ coursework with the professional field.

We are always looking for organizations and companies who would like to participate in our internship program by hosting one or more students for a work placement. Are you looking for a highly skilled intern? The range of possibilities is very broad, our students can take their internships in the field of politics, education, journalism, museums and archives, business and government administration.

Please consult our internship coordinator, Annette van Ham, to discuss your options. You can find her contact details below

Research internship Master History

The master History at ESHCC offers research internships to master's students. The internships are conducted in term 3 (February-April) and comprise 5 ECTS, which equals 18 working days. The research internship discerns itself from the bachelor's internship through an explicit research component, guided by a research question from the internship institution. Ideally the internship is connected to a master's thesis topic which the student can research during the master. Are you interested in offering a research internship to our master's students? Please contact the internship coordinator.
