On 11 November 2022, the 15th Luther Conference of the Internationale Martin Luther Stiftung will take place in Rotterdam, NL.
Former Dutch Prime Minister Jan Peter Balkenende will give the keynote speech. EU Vice-President Margrethe Vestager will be awarded the LutherRose 2022.
In their correspondence, which began in 1519 and was initially harmonious, the two theologians Erasmus of Rotterdam and Martin Luther discussed the theologically and socially relevant issues of their time. However, their theological differences came to the fore at the latest during the public discourse on (un)free will.
Thus, at the Luther Conference 2022 in Rotterdam, the hometown of Desiderius Erasmus, the dispute between the two powerful contemporaries will be re-evaluated and linked to modern issues when prominent figures from politics and business discuss this year's topic on the podium: Free trade and free will? Erasmus, Luther and current economic challenges.
The panel includes economist Prof. Dr. Lans Bovenberg, the parliamentary group leader of the Reformed Political Party SGP Kees van der Staaij, lawyer Christian Treumann and entrepreneurs Gert-Jan Huisman and Marti Pluygers. Otto Fricke MdB, budget policy spokesman of the FDP parliamentary group, will open the discussion with a keynote speech.
Prof. Dr. Herman Selderhuis, Rector of the Theological University of Apeldoorn and IMLS Board Member, and the former Dutch Prime Minister Prof. Dr. Jan Peter Balkenende will thematically complement and deepen the preceding panel discussion and thus open the ceremonial act of the conference.
During the ceremony, the LutherRose 2022 for social responsibility and entrepreneurial courage will be awarded to the European Union's Commissioner for Competition, Margrethe Vestager. The Lutheran Bishop of Copenhagen, DK, Peter Skov-Jakobsen will give the laudatory speech for the awardee.
The LutherConference and the awarding of the LutherRose 2022 will take place on Friday, 11 November 2022 from 15:00 in the Hoflaankerk in Rotterdam, the Netherlands.
The conference language is English. Registrations are still possible until 5. November 2022. At: anmeldung@luther-stiftung.org
