HefHouse

HefHouse is an innovative place located in Rotterdam-Zuid, next to the Hef bridge and Hefpark. It brings people together to share ideas and learn from each other. The municipality of Rotterdam helped create this space for education and community.

Where different worlds meet

The HefHouse welcomes everyone from the local community. All students from different educational levels (Erasmus University Rotterdam (wo), Hogeschool Rotterdam (hbo), and Albeda College (mbo)) are welcome here. Instead of traditional education in classrooms, HefHouse uses the talents and knowledge of students to directly invest in the neighbourhood. It is a place where different perspectives meet, facilitating meaningful (and often unexpected) encounters while focusing on sustainable, community-driven solutions to complex, real-world challenges.

Young people creating change

Young people from the area play an important role at HefHouse. Communities like Stichting L.E.S., who run the youth hub in the HefHouse, take the lead in shaping activities that reflect their vision for the future. Students and local residents learn from each other, creating positive changes together.

Learning through real experiences

At HefHouse, education isn't just about books. It's about creating stronger communities and helping people work together. Participants learn through real-life situations and experience how this creates lasting positive change.

Goals
- to further develop HefHouse as a basecamp for interdisciplinary educational programs to interact closely with the local community;
- to create and facilitate activities where students and youth can interact and engage within the local community.
