In the third event of our Open Science campaign, we are diving deep into the dilemmas that challenge engaged research in practice. How can we make academic work accessible and actionable for citizens and communities? How do we ensure that partnerships are equitable? And how can we foresee and navigate ethical concerns, bringing communities into the conversation from the start? This session will be a platform for sharing experiences, ideas, and strategies across a wide range of practices and disciplines.

In our conversations with many of you, it’s clear that there is a strong need for a space to learn from diverse disciplines and perspectives. This session aims to meet that need by hosting an interactive panel featuring practitioners who are breaking new ground in engaged research. We will explore the dilemmas they face and the solutions they have found. For example, we will hear from the YoungXpert initiative, which collaborates with youth voices, from the ERICA project, which brings communities together for environmental monitoring, and from Collectieve Kracht, a platform for knowledge exchange between academic and collectives. Together, we will unpack the specific challenges they encounter and come away better prepared to tackle the next dilemma.
The best practices will be followed by the presentation of the Open & Responsible Science Awards. The Dean of Impact & Engagement prof. Arwin van Buuren will hand out the awards to the winners in the categories of Open Research, Open Education, and Societal Engagement.
We will conclude the event with drinks.
