Rotterdam Arts & Sciences Lab (RASL) comprises a collaboration between EUC, IBACS, Erasmus School of Philosophy and Willem de Kooning Academy, which makes it possible to combine your thirst for both academic and artistic knowledge.
RASL's mission is to strengthen the artistic profile of Rotterdam by combining artistic and scientific practices in relation to societal challenges. They strive to be a catalyst for interdisciplinary research by combining existing and new research fields within the artistic domain.
The Dual Degree - Philosophy with Arts
For the first time in the Netherlands, you can choose between various complementary, in-depth, and artistic interdisciplinary study paths in a five-year Dual Degree programme, combining a Bachelor of Arts at Erasmus School of Philosophy and a Bachelor from Willem de Kooning Academy (Arts).
The RASL programme offers you the opportunity to develop your knowledge on an academic level, as well as to develop your artistic skills. After this programme you will be able to address complex and multidimensional challenges - as you will have what it takes to approach issues from different angles. In addition, your artistic practices will benefit from your theoretical knowledge about the arts, media and culture - and vice versa: your theoretical work is fueled by your experience as an artist.
The programmes are spread over 5 years, each year consisting of around 60 EC, the same amount as a regular Bachelor programme. Over the course of these five years, you will be studying at both institutions simultaneously, the study load is more or less equally divided between both programmes.
The study programme in a nutshell
This programme is specially designed to strengthen Rotterdam's artistic profile. You choose an art or design programme and combine it with an academic philosophy study at Erasmus University Rotterdam. You gain academic knowledge and thereby strengthen your artistic skills. In this way, you will be trained to become a broadly employable professional in the cultural sector who, as an artist, can also tackle issues in the field of, for example, policy or work as a researcher.
As a dual degree student, you will have to apply to both institutes of your choice. Please note that each institute has its own specific admission requirements - click the links below for the respective programme requirements*:
*Please note that the admission requirements for Philosophy are currently in Dutch. A waiver is available for Dutch language proficiency. We are currently working on an English translation of this page. In the meantime, if you have any questions regarding the admission requirements, please contact tomici@euc.eur.nl.
