dr. A (Adriani) Dori, LL.M

Biography

I am an experienced academic researcher specialising in procedural law and empirical legal studies. I obtained a law degree and an LL.M. in civil procedural law, civil law, and legal history from the Democritus University of Thrace (Greece), and a second LL.M. in German and European procedural law from the Ruprecht Karl University of Heidelberg (Germany). Currently, I am awaiting the defence of my PhD thesis, titled “The Governance of EU Justice Reforms” and submitted to the University of Heidelberg.

I have worked in educational and research institutions across the EU, including the University of Heidelberg, the Max Planck Institute Luxembourg for Procedural Law, the Erasmus University Rotterdam, and the European Law Institute. My expertise covers comparative and European procedural law, empirical legal studies, evaluating judicial performance, soft law, and innovative governance strategies within the European Area of Freedom, Security, and Justice (AFSJ).

My research primarily focuses on how EU justice policies reshape national procedures and incentivise civil justice reforms. I especially explore the interplay between the rule of law, economic efficiency, and access to justice. Currently, I am developing this research within a VICI project funded by the Dutch Research Council (NWO) on “Affordable Access to Justice” at Erasmus University Rotterdam (PI: Prof. Xandra Kramer) as well as a European Law Institute (ELI) project on “Third Party Funding of Litigation”. Since 2023, I am also a visiting researcher at the University of Genoa (Italy) investigating the implications of third party funding of civil litigation on procedural and financial law.

I have contributed to EU procedural law studies commissioned by the European Commission. I have provided expertise as a Greek law specialist in German state courts and practiced law in Greece (Athens Bar Association). I lectured in English and German at the University of Luxemburg on European procedural law (Evidence Regulation) and German contract law. Since 2020, I have been Assistant Editor for the International Journal of Procedural Law (IJPL), the journal of the International Association of Procedural Law (IAPL).
