Successful conference on EU-China Bilateral Investment Treaty Negotiations

On 19 April 2018 the Erasmus China Law Centre of Erasmus School of Law successfully held the international conference on EU-China Bilateral Investment Treaty Negotiations (BIT): A Focus on Investor-State Dispute Settlement.

The conference was opened by the Vice Dean of ESL, Prof. Fabian Amtenbrink. Keynote speeches were given by Mr. Nout Wellink, former President of the Netherlands Bank and a board member of the Bank of China, and Mr. Sun Guoshun, Legal Adviser of Embassy of the People's Republic of China to the Netherlands. Sixteen speakers from China and various European countries addressed the most contentious topics, challenging the ongoing EU-China BIT negotiations.

On 20 April 2018, the speakers held a small-scale meeting to comment on each other’s draft papers, which will be published in an edited book. The two-day event was one of the key activities of the program on EU-China BIT negotiations sponsored by the KNAW, jointly implemented by the ECLC and the Law School of Wuhan University.
